Before Sunday…

WOW! I just realized that I haven’t posted anything on my blog in the last 2 weeks. Well, I’m back at it with this week’s “Before Sunday…”

Summer is already past it’s peak and we are heading rapidly toward the start of school. Can you believe it! Summer certainly isn’t what it used to be when I was a kid. I can remember the uproar the first year we started school before Labor Day! I was in high school and we had our first August football game. Things have definitely changed.

One of the feature events of our summers @ The Ridge has always been our Family Fusion Family Camp. This is a highlight for many families. The last 2 summers, however, have brought about a few alterations in our Family Fusion format. The economy and schools schedule changes have forced us to change our format a bit. Last year we had the Family Fusion Conference Edition, which we did at the school we meet in each week. It went well, but this year we had hoped to return to the Family Camp. However, this did not work out financially. Yet we felt the need to do something, so we once again altered our format and did the first Family Fusion Road Trip. We just returned from this awesome trip this past Wednesday.

Family Fusion Road Trip '11 to the Creation Museum

Seven families participated (41 adults and kids) as we traveled to Petersburg, KY to the Creation Museum. It was awesome! We had a fantastic time at this top notch, high quality museum. The real science and biblical foundations are not compromised one iota. This trip was educational and a lot of fun. We hope to take another trip there in the future. I would strongly encourage every parent to consider taking your kids there. It will arm them with biblical truth and understanding to stand up against the attacks on the very foundations of God’s Word that they face everyday and will face in the future. It’s very cool too!

As summer begins to wind down…I still can’t believe I’m saying that…we have one more big event @ The Ridge. That is the Community Makeover! We’ll be participating the weekend of July 23-24 with churches from all over the county and region in impacting our communities with the love of Christ. We will be serving people, families, schools, parks and more. Don’t miss out on the chance to participate by signing up this Sunday for one of the projects. There are projects that you can bring your whole family to. I promise you will have a great experience! If you cannot be there this Sunday, but want to participate one or both of those days, email our Family & Community Outreach Pastor, Wendell Brewton at wendellb@churchattheridge.com.

This Sunday is also our 2011 Ministry Fair @ The Ridge. You’ll get a chance to check out all of the ministry teams that you can get involved with and serve God and others. This Fair will be a lot of fun too! There will be games and prizes at each ministry’s booth that you will be able to win! Don’t miss it! If you are already serving as a volunteer on one of our teams, we could use your help this Sunday with the Fair. Just show up at 10am and we’ll let you know what to do. Make an impact! Change someone’s perspective! Get involved in a Ministry Team @ The Ridge! We are praying as Jesus commanded in Matthew 9:37-38…

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest tosend out laborers into his harvest.”

We also will have a very special opportunity to meet and hear from some of our own Ridgers who are serving the Lord on mission. During our Worship Gathering I will be interviewing Mike & Mary Pinkerton about what God is doing through their mission organization, American Missionary Fellowship. Mike is one of our Advisory Elders @ The Ridge and he and Mary are dedicated servants of the Lord. You don’t want to miss this special  Worship Gathering Sunday! I am looking forward to it very much! You will be blessed by the word God has for you through the Pinkertons!

Finally, remember that if you are out of town the remainder of this summer, please make sure you take advantage of our ONLINE giving. Click HERE to get started giving online. Things have been very tight this summer, but God has seen us through and we’ve been able to do many of the summer events and programs we felt led to do. Yet, we need you Ridgers to stay faithful…as so many of you have. Our reserve account has been tapped twice already this summer to pay fixed expenses and it is running pretty thin. So stay faithful and obedient when you are not here by giving online or through your bank’s auto bill pay.

See you Sunday @ The Ridge!
