Weekend Recap for 10-10-10

This weekend was pretty eventful. Starting with Friday and the uloading of a tractor-trailer full of pumpkins for the Pumpkin Patch @ The Ridge! We are raising funds for digging wells and building churches in Burkina Faso in West Africa. The Pumpkin Patch is located at the Kroger on Ridge Road in South Paulding County. Check out this video…

This past Sunday we talked about the second of the Beatitudes in our “Game Changer” series. in Matthew 5:4 Jesus said,

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Blessed are those who mourn. Mourn over what? Not just those who are sad over the death of someone, but it is an attitude of mourning and true sorrow over our sin. There is sorrow that I got caught…which is mostly how we feel over our sin. Then there is a godly sorrow that Paul spoke of in 2 Corinthians 7:9-10 which leads us to repentance.

We don’t mourn over our sin. Mourning over sin is not mourning over something done TO us or something that happened TO someone else, but something you did that hurt God?

Mourning over  sin means that I  HURT when God HURT. When was the last time you mourned over your own sin? …over the sin in the church? …over the sins of the nation?

Instead, we as a nation, as individuals, even the church, are winking at sin, being entertained by sin, and  laughing at sin…at the very things that nailed Jesus to a cross!

Godly sorrow causes us to RUN to the arms of the Father where COMFORT awaits those who mourn.

Comforted means that those who are blessed…in the favor of God…in right standing with Him…will mourn over their sin and thus be comforted. Comforted means God’s forgiveness, healing, and restoration. The comfort of God is waiting for us because we have mourned over our sin as God mourns over it. (1 John 1:9)
