Today was a great day as we started a new series “Awake” and kicked off our fall season promoting our RidgeKidz. It was “pajama day” in RidgeKidz as we strarted “Awake” series. Some adults took advantage and wore their pjs too!
We did things a little different as the teaching time was first and the singing and prayer time was the second part of the gathering. Worship is a response to what God is doing in and through our lives. It was really good as our band and creative arts team led us.
We kicked off this series talking about what revival is and why we need it. Why do we need revival? In Genesis 4:16, we read: So Cain went out from the LORD’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
Nod literally means wanderings…wanderings apart from the presence of God. We don’t know if Cain had a choice here…The Bible doesn’t say that God drove him out of His presence, it says he went out. Likely he chose to leave out of guilt for his sin. When you look at the evil, rebellious and wicked generations that followed Cain, it sure seems like that was the case. What Cain did in the physical sense, we have done in the spiritual sense. We have wandered off in our own ways doing things in our own wisdom and strength…even those of us who claim to be followers of Christ. We ignore God and go off into the land of wanderings…
Revival is not…
a series of meetings…emotional experience soon forgotten…not afad or popular wave off change that comes and goes
Revival does not result from an encounter with a doctrine or a program or a new way of doing things… but a response to a Person.
Revival is…as Martin Lloyd Jones said, “a period of unusual blessing and activity [of God] in the life of the Christian Church.”
It is an extraordinary move of the HS among God’s people resulting in a spiritual awakening among the lost. It is about the people of God awakening to the reality and understanding of how far they have drifted from God.
Someone once said that revival is “The Reviver in action”
It means tapping into the life that Jesus said was possible. Revival is an outpouring of the HS that is unusual and extraordinary. It is Christians becoming repentant, obedient, doers of the Word and not just hearers.
What does an extraordinary movement of God actually look like? How does it start? Here is an example from history…
Can God do this kind of thing again? Absolutely. The question is are we willing to be broken and repentant and seek Him in prayer…earnestly seek Him. When revival begins in our hearts, then revival can begin in the church and nation.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Our prayer is that this series will “awaken” us to our need for revival and lead to true revival and awakening in His church and this community…and maybe beyond!
