Tonight’s the night…

The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread…” So Paul recounts, in 1 Corinthians 11, the Lord’s Supper…the last meal Jesus would take on this earth. Tonight is that night. It is the beginning of this most Holy weekend. It is not the beginning of the end, but rather the beginning of the beginning…of the new beginning!

Jesus said, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood.” (1 Cor. 11:25b NKJV) It was after this meal that Jesus would go to the garden to agonize and pray and wrestle with God’s will. “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39). Then He would be betrayed, arrested and tried (illegally), beaten and tortured beyond recognition, mocked, ridiculed, rejected. What a night! And you think you’ve had a tough day. That night is tonight. The next day Jesus would be killed.

Don’t forget that Easter is only possible because of what happened tonight…Thursday night. If it were not for all of those things…the time when things seemed darkest is when God was working out His plan. Defeat seemed sure, “But God…” had certain victory coming! It may have been Thursday night… it may have been Friday…but Sunday was just around the corner! All things were about to be new!

Maybe that is where you are in life. Things seem really dark right now. “But God…” is about to do something powerful in your life, IF…you are willing to trust Him and seek Him. What do you KNOW? What do you want to KNOW? What can you KNOW for sure? This Easter we are starting a new series that will explore those questions. What really IS for certain?

Well, for one thing, I KNOW my Redeemer lives! He came to make all things new. He can make you and I new. Feeling worn, beaten down? He makes that new. Discouraged? He gives new hope. Dirty? He can make that clean and new. Feeling cast aside, broken, bitter? He can make that new too. His blood is the blood of the new covenant…shed for the forgiveness of sin…Grace…Hope…New! You CAN  KNOW these things…Ya know?

Don’t miss Easter @ The Ridge. Make certain you are here and that you bring someone with you who needs to KNOW what hope is and Who hope is.

It may be Thursday night or Friday in your life or their life, but Sunday IS coming! Tonight’s the night that makes Easter…Easter!

Devotional Thought For Today: Take some time to read Matthew 26 today or tonight with your family.
