Sunday Recap 11-29-09

Today was a good day @ The Ridge. We had a Family Dedication today and we saw 8 families dedicate a total of 15 children to the Lord. It was a great kickoff to our worship gatherings today…and very appropriate for Thanksgiving weekend.

Attendance was really good, especially for a holiday weekend. Several first-time guests too…and not just those who were there for the Family Dedications.

At least two people indicated they were putting their faith in Christ today for the first time. That is what it’s all about!

Loved the fact that we got to leave our set up last week because of the holiday week at the school. An extra hour of sleep this morning was nice!

Today we had what we call an “open week”, meaning it wasn’t part of a series. The message today was “the forgotten.” We talked about Standing Stones or stones of remembrance in scripture. In Joshua 4:1-9 we saw where God told the children of Israel to set up stones of remembrance so that generations to come would know what God had done there as they crossed the Jordan River.

A stone of remembrance showed all who saw it that “The Lord is God.”

God tells us over and over in scripture to remember

  • where we came from
  • who He is
  • what He’s done

A grateful heart is a heart that remembers

We become “takers” in life when we forget

God wants us to be a living, standing stone. In 1 Peter 2:4-5, Peter uses similar imagery in referring to us a living stone:

4As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Here’s The Thing from today…
My life should be a “standing stone” that says “The Lord Is God

What kind of living “standing stone” are you? What is it about your life that says to other people, “The Lord is God”?

Everything I do should be in gratitude for Who He is and what He’s done. I want to be a giver in life, not a taker, because He ultimately GAVE me everything. (John 3:16). I want my life to be a living, standing stone…a reminder of how awesome my God is…what amazing things He has done and WILL do if anyone will trust Him…a testimony of His grace and mercy. I pray that my life will say to others “The Lord IS God!” For that I will be grateful. For that I will serve Him. For that I will give generously. For that I will follow Him all the days of my life. Will you?

After our worship gathering, I and my two sons had a chance, along with several of our small group leaders and ministry team leaders, to go the the Falcons game. We received some free tickets courtesy of Home Depot, when we purchased gift cards for flood victims last month. Although my sons and I didn’t get there until after halftime, we still had a blast and got to see the Falcons win in an amazing finish! It was a lot of fun to hang with my boys!

We start a new Christmas series next Sunday called YOUR Christmas Carol. It is gonna start with a bang and you do not want to miss it! Invite someone who needs hope! It’s gonna be a great series.
