Update on Family Tragedy

First of all, let me say thank you to all of you who have been praying. There was much going on that you didn’t even know you were praying for. God has been gracious and things seem to be settling down somewhat this afternoon.

If you’ve ever seen an episode of any law and crime drama, you may have a taste of all the “drama” we have been through today alone. I can’t possibly recap everything we’ve done. However, after 4-5 calls to the medical examiner’s office, 5 calls to detectives, 6 hours trying to track down my brother-in-law’s almost-but-not-quite-ex-wife (crazy story about that status which really complicated things!), 4-5 calls to 3 different lawyers, multiple e-mails to multiple people, conversations with victims, pastors, insurance people, funeral directors (3 different ones) and more…we were finally able to get my brother in law’s body released to the funeral home and get arrangements tentatively set. It would actually take many pages of postings to tell all the drama. But because of the graciousness of God’s people here, and the prayers of many people everywhere, I think we have some things settled…for now anyway.

For those of you who are interested the arrangements for Kim’s brother, Jeffrey Beaty, will be at Gallatin Funeral Home @ Crestview 1620 Hwy. 109 N., Gallatin, TN  (615)452-1943. Visitation will be Thursday, May 28 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. The service will be at 3:00pm. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jeff Beaty’s name to the Long Hollow Baptist Church Benevolence Fund (Hendersonville, TN).

Thank you for your prayers. There is still much unknown stuff to be arranged, more than I can go into right now, so please continue to pray for Kim and her parents. It is an amazing situation to be in when you are working with people who are not really connected well with any church.  How do people do this without that? It definitely makes me appreciate a church like The Ridge. We are truly blessed to be a part of this body!
