Amazing Race Week 2 Pit Stop and Recap 5-17-09

Today was a good day, challenging day and difficult day all in one. We are in Part two of our series called The Amazing Race: Leaving A Lasting Legacy. Today we talked about “Detours From A Lasting Legacy” as we looked at King David and Solomon. The “PIT STOP” for this week is below.  Here are some of the highlights of the day:

  • Attendance was down quite a bit today. Several volunteers out. Thankfully a bunch of folks stepped up to the plate at breakdown time and helped pinch hit today. Thanks to you all for your willingness!
  • The band did their usual stellar job. Closed the service with “Wonder” and did an awesome job!
  • Today was the day we presented out “First Fruits” offering for our Faith Initiative. Many of you Ridgers stepped up and began your giving toward your commitment today! Awesome! I’ll share totals of this offering later in the week.
  • SAD day today as we said good-bye to Ashley Graziano. She has served this past year as our staff part-time as Family Ministry Associate in charge of directing and coordinating RidgeKidz & RidgeKidzJr. Prior to that Ashley and her husband Joe have been a part of serving at The Ridge since Day One of our Core Group. They have been a HUGE blessing here @ The Ridge and have been an incredible blessing to me and my family for years (Ashley and I go back a long way, since I was her Youth Pastor back in Middle School). Joe has been transferred to Sarasota, Fl with his job and even though I tried, Ashley decided to go with him. Ashley and Joe, you all will be sorely missed! We love you guys!
  • Tonight is our JAM-Nite. This is a special night of breakout classes for families. We will have supper and topical classes to strengthen families. It should be a great time as 120+ have signed up to participate.

Pit Stop – “Detours From A Lasting Legacy”

Read through parts of the stories of David & Solomon this week. They can be found in 1 Chronicles 22, 28, 29; 2 Chronicles 1; 1 Kings 11. Take time to study these questions on your own or discuss with your spouse or family.

  • Where did Solomon go wrong?
  • What did David do or not do that might have made a difference in how Solomon’s reign ended?

Read God’s requirements for kings in Deuteronomy 17:14-20

  • How does this relate to us as parents…or potential parents?
  • What are the three things that God warns kings not to do?
  • What is the one thing God says the king should do to keep himself from wavering to the right or to the left (look at verses 18-20) and what is the promise He gives?
  • Is this good advice to us as “kings/queens” over our own homes and families?
  • What does this say to you and I about leaving a lasting legacy in our families?

For further study: Read about Josiah in 2 Kings 13:1-3 and 2 Kings 21-23

  • What were some of the keys to the revival Israel experienced under Josiah’s reign?
