Sunday Recap 6-15-08

Happy Father’s Day! I actually got to celebrate yesterday, because we are jetting out of town for a quick trip this afternoon. My wife and kids gave me homemade cards, some quiet time to relax yesterday afternoon for about an hour, and a new pair of Sperry Top-siders. I also got one of my favorite meals that my wife makes: homemade French Dip sandwiches with steak fries. MMMM!

We had a good day at The Ridge today. Attendance seems to have leveled off in the low 300’s (308 to be exact for June). LOTS of our regular volunteers were out today in the children’s area. If you are an attender @The Ridge and can help by filling in some this summer in RidgeKidz, please let Ashley know – ashleyg@churchattheridge.com .

For Father’s Day we had some “Corn-Hole” set up outside on the front lawn. If you don’t know what corn hole is, google it. It is an addictive game! We also gave away Braves tickets to two lucky dads who won the Rubik’s Cube contest (80s, remember 🙂 ). Every dad walked out with a Longhorn’s gift card too!

We are continuing our Life Lessons From The 80s series with Psalm 86. Specifically, verse 11:

Teach me your ways, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart that I may fear your name.

The Hebrew word for teach in this verse is the same word for “shoot” as in an archer with an arrow. What if we asked God to pierce our heart with His ways? …to penetrate our whole being with his ways, would we be different? Would we walk in His truth? Would we have an undivided heart? That was my prayer for each person today, but especially each dad.

John, Jason and the band did an awesome job too with an “unplugged” worship set today. Very cool!

We are heading to Jacksonville, FL this afternoon. My father is the Sr. Adult Pastor at No. Jacksonville Baptist Church. I am speaking to his Sr. Adult group Tuesday. I will be asking them to partner with us in prayer and possibly financially if they are able, for our Family Camp this August. We believe that God wants to impact several families in a big way this summer, but we need to raise several thousand dollars in order to keep it affordable for families. We will be asking these senior saints to “adopt” a family and pray for them this summer and during our camp. We are taking the whole family down, but we’ll be returning Wednesday, so its just a quick trip.

The 80’s continue next week with Psalm 80. We’ll also see what was going on in 1980.
