Playing In The Rain

This evening we had one of those great summer showers that we have been missing for so long. It was a good one that for once did not include lightning. The kids were wanting to get out in it and run around with their umbrellas. What started as stepping out of the garage door for a few seconds and coming back in, soon turned into a full fledged singing and dancing in the rain scene. It was raining pretty hard and the puddles were getting bigger, so I just let them go for it! It was fun to watch! They had a blast!

It got me thinking, as a lot of things do. We have talked so much about needing rain and have prayed for it. God has answered those prayers and I hope He continues to do so. However, when the “rains” come in our lives, we tend to try and just “make it through” all the while complaining and grumbling. We ask “Why?” a lot during the rainy times. But just as we in Georgia have so desperately needed rain for lake levels, grass and crops to grow, WE NEED rain in our lives in order for US to grow. God knows that. It is all about perspective. His perspective is different. Now, I’m not saying that you should just sing and dance through the rainy times in life. Sometimes you just can’t. But having His perspective on why these times happen, can help us to maybe look at it a little differently. Rain brings growth. Without them we might just get complacent and dry up. The thing about rain, it always stops and clears up eventually. Just a thought.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:25

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
